Global Issues Series through Model United Nations is a unique opportunity for homeschooled high school students that packages an honors level course with a different focus each year together with a practical, hands-on, extracurricular activity in the form of three Model UN conferences.

Typical, course specific, weekly assignments may include reading, discussion based questions, speech writing, and preparing for mini-simulations. In-class activities may include discussion seminars, public speaking, mini-simulations, and games. Some examples of Global Issues courses offered in the past are:
– Global Studies Series: Regions of the World
– Global Issues Series: Conflict and Peacebuilding
– Global Issues Series: The UN and its Role in the World

Additionally, students are offered the opportunity to participate in 3 Model UN conferences per year, for which they will need to conduct research and write a position paper. As part of the overall curriculum, the students will learn about Model UN parliamentary procedure and research strategies, while identifying and crafting solutions to global challenges. Throughout the year, they will constantly work on their public speaking, negotiation, and soft skills. A great emphasis is placed on creating a friendly environment fueled by teamwork and peer support.

The Global Issues Series through Model United Nations offers homeschool high school students an unparalleled opportunity to improve their global awareness, delve into niche international contexts, and expand their perspective on world issues. This is done both through an honors level course as well as through Model UN conferences. The Global Issues Series through Model UN is the perfect example of a social science class with a lab for any high school student.
